Christmas Letters from the Past

I have been severely remiss in blogging. Initially I didn't know how to structure my time after retirement and felt like I needed to add a "Job" after retirement.  That is so funny now when I don't have "time" to blog. I have been fairly consistent in my Christmas Letters. I used to send them out via mail and lately I have sent them digitally. Since it is again the Christmas season and I am feeling like I need to document how this year went, I re-read all of my past letters and decided to post them.  I started writing Christmas letters in 1993, must have been after our first computer. Well those letters only exist in my Christmas Letter file, but I have 2003-present on the current computer. I got a chuckle reading these, I hope you do too. Merry 2019.

                                                  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Merry Christmas for 2003,
I think every year I write that “that” year has been crazy, but this year has beaten them all hands down. I’m not even sure where to begin.
The year started out great when George and I went on vacation to Joshua Tree NP and Death Valley NP. We got to visit with my cousin who I haven’t seen in 20 years and Aunt and Uncle who have been sailing the South Pacific. It was so good to reconnect with family.
For reasons too numerous to go into, I decided to promote in the department and in June promoted to Sergeant. For me to assume this job, I had to complete the basic Correctional Officers Academy that is 16 weeks long. So in July I went to Galt, Ca and “C/O boot-camp”. It was so hot during Range (that’s weapons qualification) I thought the rocks would melt. George was holding down the home front and that’s when everything went sideways.
George was given a “pink slip” as his program was being cut. This was part of California’s State budget crisis. His options were hoping that another teaching job “might” be created (maybe or maybe not in Susanville) or to become a Correctional Officer and stay in Susanville for sure. He decided on Wednesday to demote and become a C/O. He started the Academy on the following Monday, September 1……with me.
We got Chris to move back home and house sit, take care of the dogs and George and I went off to our strange little existence as fellow cadets. We each lived in a dorm (no not together) and spent quality time shining our boots, studying for tests, sharing experiences such as OC spray, tactical maneuvers and riot control. What a summer! I graduated on Oct. 24 and George graduates on Dec. 19.
For me the move has been a blessing. My stress level is so much less. I feel like I can make it to retirement. It looks like a good move for George too. It will help his retirement a lot.
Jason got out of the Marines in January and was recalled in March. He had moved home and started college. I felt very lucky that he was assigned to Camp Pendleton as a MP, and didn’t have to go to Iraq. He wanted to go……. I’m still glad he didn’t. Jason got out on the first
of November and plans to move to Chico, live with Nick and go to school. Not sure of long term plans just getting back to civilian mindset.
Nick is still in Chico, going to school and working. He has a nice girlfriend and things are going good for him. Chris bailed us out by watching the house for us. As of the first of November he has enrolled in the California Culinary Academy. This is one of the top rated cooking schools in the nation and is located in San Francisco. He lives on Union Square and is close to China Town and Fisherman’s Warf. This was his idea totally. He has been working in the food service business for two years and likes it a lot. He’s having a great time. His program is 15 months long so he will be done around Feb. 2005.
Alex graduated High School.. (Barely). With the help and guidance of mother, he decided to join the Air Force. It was a good decision. He graduated the 7th of November from basic training in Lackland AFB,TX. Jason and I flew back to be there and enjoyed a brief visit to San Antonio, TX. He is being trained as a Firefighter and when I last talked to him, he said that he would also be an EMT when he was done along with all of the fire suppression training. He is so excited and being kept very busy.
So all in all, things are going along OK. The Cancer from last year is still gone. All of us are healthy and happy. We are thankful that the changes/challenges have left us employed. The whole family is looking forward to the new careers we are all starting. Funny isn’t it.
 We hope all of you are doing well this year and are looking forward to hearing from you. God Bless you and Merry Christmas.
Merry Christmas 2004
To all of our family and friends, we hope your year will be safe and happy.
Christmas 2003 was the first time all of the kids were home for Christmas in five years. We had a wonderful time. Jason had just left the Marines after five years, Alex had finished training in the Air Force to be a Fireman, and Chris had started Chef School in San Francisco. Nick and his lady Mandi told us we were Grandparents to be in July.
We started our new careers as Correctional Officers, nothing like a forced mid-life career change to make things interesting, and began the last and final remodel of our house. Good news, we’re still married and speaking.
We took a leisurely vacation in March traveling the California coast in the off season. Weather was great and no crowds. We went to Hearst Castle, the new Getty museum, and San Francisco. Good place to get remodel ideas. We broke ground in May and had a hole in the back of our yard as big as a swimming pool. The lot slopes quite a bit. We ended up with a new sewer system, new electric, new water main and a new roof. Gulp! It’s a very old house and it needed the TLC. We found under the house, by the chimney foundation, a book from 1899. It’s in great condition.
In July we got the call, baby is on the way! We were at Ava’s birth July 17, she weighed in at 7lbs, 3 oz. Very soon after it became apparent that all was not well. The Dr. listened to her heart and after some tests determined that Ava needed to be in an infant ICU so we were off to Sacramento. Mandi had a rough delivery and was not able to go with us. She and her parents stayed in Paradise, where Ava was born.
After a day and a half of tests, Mandi and her parents joined us and we had a meeting with the medical team, Ava was born with an extremely rare birth defect, Vein of Galen malformation. It is like an aneurism deep in the middle of her brain. We were off to UCSF Children’s hospital in San Francisco. They performed even more tests but were unable to fix her. Ava died in her mother’s arms at three days old, surrounded by all of her loving family.
Wow talk about getting your feet knocked out from underneath you.  Nick and Mandi had the worst possible year. Nick lost his job and had one lined up when we lost Ava.  Mandi had months of post delivery health problems not to mention overwhelming grief. Somehow we have all got by. Nick is working and so is Mandi. She plans on going back to school this spring. Nick is working construction and loves it. They are still strong together and are facing each day. I am so proud how they both supported each other and loved that little baby.
The house trudged on, George and I huddled in one room while our house was invaded by contractors. I gave up and worked lots of overtime. It was easier to be at work than at home. George got put on night shift so he discovered ear plugs and tried to sleep through the noise. I think the never ending dust is what the worse part of the whole thing was. Our contractor promised that all would be done by October. So we planned Thanksgiving at our house and invited my Mom and step dad plus all of the boys.
Sub-contractors, what can I say. Delay, delay and then work sent me to a week long training in Sacramento. Yikes! Saturday Nov. 20, I had no counters, sink, water, or carpet. Wood and tools were everywhere. But miracles still do happen, by Wed. the 24th, I had electricians, plumbers, cabinet guys, carpet guys and my contractor, and we had Thanksgiving.
It was so fantastic. We love our new house. I have new kitchen counter tops, green granite, a new sink, a beautiful downstairs bathroom, TV room, a master bedroom, bath and walk in closet. We have repainted the whole house and it’s like new. We actually have room for guests now and I am unpacking.
Alex has orders to go to Kyrgyzstan on the 30th. I heard it is -13 this time of year. He is currently stationed at Travis AFB, Fairfield Ca. He is a fireman and likes the Air Force and his job. He has turned it around. He was only 45 min away from Chris in San Francisco and they saw each other often He is getting certified to drive the BIG fire trucks.  I got to visit and get a tour of his station and the airfield. It was cool!
Jason is worried he’ll be called back again. He is working for Harrah’s Casino in Reno. He is working security at night and taking college classes in the morning. His plans are up in the air, he’s thinking about Corrections in California. He likes it around Susanville/ northern California. He stops by often and we see him when we go to Reno to shop. It’s good to have kids around.
Chris graduated from the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco November 12. His plans are to work at the academy in the “Crème Room” and also work on his externship through Christmas. Then he’ll come home and pack up and move to Aspen Colorado where he has a job/externship at Aspen Meadows Resort. His life is going how he planed it.
George is adapting well to life as a prison guard (“knuckle dragging guard”). They are strict that we can’t work together, but I hear that everybody likes to work with him. I like the changes I have had. I’m certainly not bored.  I have been sent on several training assignments and have to do a lot of staff training when I get back. That is one of the fun parts of the job. Right now we have Wednesday, Thursday off together and that is working out well for us. No kids at home and time together.
Our thoughts are with you. Love your families and hug your grandchildren for us. How the times have changed when my Christmas wish is for us to be safe. Keep well, be healthy and keep in touch. It’s been too hectic, next year’s letter will be timelier.
Merry Christmas 2005
It’s been another busy year for the Robinette’s.  All of us are well.  Work has been almost all consuming but we’ve been able to keep our balance.  Last year we remodeled all year and just barley finished before the holidays arrived.  We had our open house on my birthday in February. ~ I still lie in bed and enjoy not having contractors walk through the house. ~ Our prison is critically short staff. Last I read, we had the highest vacancy rate per capita in the state. This means we have been doing involuntary overtime every week.  Some weeks we did 24 extra hours over and above the regular 40 hours.
Boys are doing well.  Jason is still in Reno. He’s working at Harrahs and going to school.  He has applied to work in Corrections and wants to end up in Susanville.  He is just about done and ready to start the Academy.  Having money will be a novel experience for him.   He has been working and going to college.  Nick and Mandi are still in Chico.  Nick is working with Senceri construction out of Chico and has kept busy all year.  They really like him and he’s learning a lot.  He worked on building a bridge at Lake Tahoe this summer and is now in Petaluma building a Homeland Security office.  He has been working extra hours and when he complained, I reminded him where he was last year.  Mandi has been working full time and going to school in the evening.  She is just about done with phase one, Associates Degree.  Not sure what phase two will be, but she is getting great grades.   We are so proud of both of them.  Last year would have destroyed most couples, but they have persevered.
Chris is still in Aspen, Co.  He is working for Aspen Meadows Resort, the biggest bonus is a season’s ski pass.  He has worked his way to dinner chef in the dinning room.  He has catered for Sen. McCain and John Kerry.  Ski pass is still the most important thing.  He’s talking about moving this spring to a more affordable place.  Cost of living is unreal.
Alex is getting married!   June 3, he and his high school sweetheart, Danielle, are tying the knot!  Yikes!  He is stationed at Travis AFB.  He went to Kyrgyzstan in January and came home in May.   I got to see him when I went to training at CSP- Solano, (10 minutes from Travis).  He is a fireman and the equipment is soooooooo big.  His long term goal is paramedic and work for a municipal fire department.  Danielle is continuing college this spring and is looking for a nursing program.  She would like to get her RN.  The wedding will be in Susanville.  I have lots to do.
George and I went on a kayaking trip on Lake Powell, Arizona this year.  What a blast!  We camped on the lake and paddled up a slot canyon.  Weather was cool in April but there were no crowds, a big plus in my book.  We also saw my Mom in St. George Ut.  They are both doing great.  Summer in Susanville consisted in us passing each other on the way to/from work.  We didn’t do anything but work.  By August we were worn out and tired of the heat, and took a week off and kayaked Big Lagoon, just north of Patrick’s Point Sp.,  Lovely fog.  We relaxed and spent time re-charging the batteries.
We had a mess in our yard after last year’s construction, zero landscaping and a lot of weeds.  We put in sod, sprinkler system and finally a deck.  This time around I am aiming for low maintenance.  Looks great!  Now all we need is time to enjoy it.
We celebrated Christmas early this year.  All of the boys and girlfriends had Thanksgiving off, but had to work Christmas.  I shopped and wrapped and had “ Christmas” ready by Nov. 25.  The kids, my brother Dave and his wife Lin, Dad and Betty all came for the festivities. We also made room for old friends.  Fourteen people joined us for dinner.  So thankful we had the space for everyone.  What a great time we had.  I planned welcoming gifts for the future Mrs.’s Robinette’s, (these were bee-hive wigs with hillbilly teeth)  I haven’t laughed like that in years, good therapy.  My brother Dave got to spend time with the nephews and Grandma and Grandpa got to meet the girls.
George and I both worked 16 hours Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, so people could go home and enjoy their families.  We already enjoyed ours.  2005 was good to us.  We have enjoyed receiving our friends, family’s news letters this year.  All in all we are so thankful for our lives, our family and dear friends.  Even if we don’t stay in close contact, know you are in our thoughts.  You are the riches in our life.  Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and may God keep you safe in the new year.
Merry Christmas 2006
I’ve been sitting, trying to compose this letter and not use the words busy, demanding, frenzied, challenging or hectic.  So far, I’m not succeeding.  Crazy, maybe that sums it up best.  We started out 2006 on a two and a half week vacation to the big island of Hawaii.  It was like heaven.  Fresh fruit, clean air, snorkel spots, orchids and waterfalls.  We put 1300 miles on our rental car.  Remember it’s an island. Had a wonderful time and can’t wait to return.  While we were there Chris called and told us he had been run over by a snowmobile and broke his leg while snowboarding in Aspen.  We have been at the mercy of Chris’s pranks for years so it took a bit for us to really believe him.  3000+ miles away… hmmm. George went to Aspen after we got home and brought Chris back to convalesce.  Several months later and lots of physical therapy, he is mostly recovered.  He still needs to return to Aspen to have the hardware removed.
Jason graduated from the Correctional Officer Academy June 23, 2006 and began working at High Desert State Prison, Susanville.  He didn’t want to work with mom and dad.  He is doing real well.  He likes the job and he likes the income and benefits.  It’s been nice to have him around. He still comes by to wash laundry and have Mom cook.  Now he actually helps with the dishes and takes out the trash!  Grown children are Great!  Our family conversations over dinner are probably pretty strange, but we all have stuff to talk about.  He has a cute  apartment and has fixed it up nicely.  Amazing what a steady paycheck can do.  Now it’s all about finding a nice girl.
Nick and Mandi are still in Chico.  They came up to visit over the Fourth of July weekend and while driving, a small motorcycle slammed into the side of their pickup while they were making a left hand turn.  The side impact was so severe that major damage occurred to the truck but worse, both of them had lots of soft tissue injuries that have taken several months and lots of physical therapy to fix.  Mandi still has disk injuries.  The driver of the motorcycle, he broke his wrist, that’s all, he was drunk.   Most of the easy things are fixed up like Nick’s injuries and the truck.  Mandi is on the road to recovery, its just a long road.
Chris relocated to the Paso Robles area and is cooking at two different restaurants. He was out of work too long and needs to pay off some of his bills.  He is working a Robyn’s in Cambria, one of the best restraints in the area.  The chef that hired him for Robyn’s left and opened his own restaurant in Paso Robles, “Artisan”, and brought Chris along.  We ate at Artisan, it was fantastic.  Chris also cooked Thanksgiving dinner.  Oh my!  I can’t express how much fun it is to have someone cook, at that level, for you.  This year was better than last year.  I have to wash the dishes but it just about evens out.
Alex is in Kuwait until January 2007.  He and Danielle have gone their separate ways.  When he deployed overseas, he left his big TV with Jason and his new car with Nick and Mandi, but he left his dog with us. Hmmmmmm  After the break up, he wanted to get away and volunteered for Kuwait.  I’m not sure what air base he is at, but it’s hot and has lots of sand.  After he returns, he will be stationed at Travis AFB until June when he deploys for one year to Honduras.  We are planning on visiting him, some great snorkeling, and it’s warm.  It is always good to have friends and family in warm places.   He is looking forward to going to Honduras, from all reports it’s a great place to be stationed.
George and I are still plugging away.  I promoted to Lieutenant in June.  The learning curve is still steep.  Corrections are undergoing dramatic changes.  It will be interesting to see where it ends up.  The massive problems of gangs and overcrowding are creating a lot of increased violence.  Something has to give.  George and I have middle of the week off together so we get to see each other and maintain the appearances of “Normal” suburbia. The usual overtime continued this year and we didn’t do any of out favorite things. Sigh!  We did enjoy the deck and relaxing on the weekends.   I never thought I would end up as a Correctional Lieutenant.  Being middle management, quasi lawyer, and motivational supervisor is a bizarre twist in my career.  I am amazed at all of the information I am expected to know.  Reference librarian is also what I do. (How bizarre, how bizarre…)   All of the problems in the medical department and the medical field in general, have definitely vindicated my decision.  As of January 1, 2007 the MTA classification (that is what I was) will be eliminated.  I saw it coming, good timing on my part.  Both George and I like our jobs as strange as that sounds.   Hopefully we can hang until we can retire.
We got a puppy this summer.  So now we have 4 dogs (including Alex’s pup).  The puppies keep each other busy and their sad looks guilt me into walking them. I walk the three younger dogs, 2 Akita’s on one side and the Shiba on the other.  I can clear out the sidewalk.  I guess it just feels right to have 4 “kids” at home.  “Lelani”, our Akita puppy girl, is 6 months old and as big as our old girl dog, “Henna”. She is about 55 lbs. so far.  It’s always good to have a puppy around, but my shoes and furniture won’t be sorry to see them grow up.  Alex’s pup “Souda” is an escape artist.  It is an art.  We have never had a dog that puts so much thought into getting out of the yard.  George has given up saying the yard is “dog proof”.  That is only a temporary state and Souda is working out his next escape plan.  I guess our experience in keeping felons locked up is being used in a constructive manner.  I am drawing the line at barbed wire and gun towers.
All of us are doing great.  We keep hoping we can get time off to visit with friends and do weekend trips.  So far we don’t have any big projects planned this year.  All of the big house/yard projects are completed and enjoying them will be nice.   I am hearing lakes calling our names, come paddle.   Our fingers are crossed and hopefully we will have a wedding this spring, more info to follow.   Hope all of you are doing well, remember keep your chin up and hang tough.
Our thoughts are with you and we love hearing from all of you throughout the year.  As usual I’ll enclose our e-mail address and have a Merry Christmas and a Bountiful New Year.
Merry Christmas 2007
Wow! Did 2007 fly past fast or what?  I am having a hard time realizing it really is December and we are looking into 2008.  We had the honor to welcome two beautiful young ladies into the Robinette family.
Nick and Mandi were married St. Patrick’s Day in a small and intimate wedding.  All of the brothers were there along with all of the Grandparents and my brother and sister-in law.  That was so much fun.  Alex was able to be there before he was stationed in Honduras.  We love Mandi and are so happy she is now a Robinette.
Jason ands Jessica were married in a private wedding in August.  We did have a big reception in October for both of the families and friends.  Jessica is a beautiful young lady and smart.  She is finishing her nursing degree.  The even bigger news, they are expecting in April 2008.  It’s a girl!  We had all the family back up to Susanville again and even had some long lost family come.  I love weddings.
Right after the March wedding, George and I took our vacation and went to Baja California on a wildlife tour.  We were on a small (80 foot) boat with 5 other passengers.  We left La Paz and snorkeled, kayaked and cruised up the Sea of Cortez for a week.  Whales, seals, birds, whales and did I mention whales?  What a fantastic trip.  On the tale end of our vacation, my cousin Andrea Zittel, had an art show in LA’s Museum of Modern Art.  We had to go see it.  We flew, stayed with my brother and met Andrea before the show.  It was too cool.  We really enjoyed her show.
I went back to work and found out it was my turn to work night shift for the summer.  I worked from 10pm to 6am.  This was the time that employee shortages reached a critical point and every staff member at CCC worked an additional 8-24 hours per week.  For the months of May, June, July and August, George and I worked about 60 hours per week.  I never saw a lake, the kayaks never got wet and we didn’t do any thing other than try to keep it together.  Actually we did 1 thing, we went to Reno and got our Open Water diver certificate, we have a plan.
Work is getting better, at least staffing wise.  We had all the family home again for Thanksgiving.  This year our theme was “A Pirate Thanksgiving”.  What fun.  Everybody came dressed as pirates and we talked like pirates and had a feast. We had a wonderful dinner.  Two days of laughing and spending quality time together.
Chris went to Gateway Canyon Resort, Gateway Colorado, for the summer and had a marvelous time.  Got more experience and had fun while he was there.  This fall, he relocated to San Diego and is working at Rancho Santa Fe golf course.
Alex returned from Kuwait in February, was home until June when he was stationed in Honduras.  He is at Soto Canno Base in central Honduras, this about an hour west of the Capitol.  George and I plan on visiting in February 2008.  I guess the Bay islands are one of the premier scuba diving locations in the world.  Its part of the second largest reef system next to the Great Barrier Reef.  Yes, this is the plan.  We hope Alex will join us for a week of diving in Roatan.
Our old girl dog, Henna, passed just after Christmas last year.  The puppies have grown past the need to nibble my shoes and all is well at the Robinette’s.  A 30 year class reunion in Susanville brought some best friends back to town.  It was fun to get together, so much has changed, so much hasn’t.  We hope you all are doing well.  Have a prosperous, healthy and wonderful 2008.
Keep in touch…Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas to all of our family and friends, Happy New Year, Happy Martin Luther King Day, Happy Valentine’s Day(I need to get this out before the next stamp increase happens, whenever that will be).  2008 flew by far too fast.  Evidently it went too fast for me to keep up.
Now that the dust of the inauguration has settled, I am overcome with the fact that the president of the USA is younger than I am!  Oh well,
We started out the year by planning and visiting Alex in Honduras.  We spent two weeks on the island of Rotan, scuba diving.  Alex joined us for a week.  We ate, dove, relaxed on the beach, dove some more then slept (with more eating).  We had the most relaxing time. Scuba diving is the most amazing thing we have ever done.  Weightlessly floating under water is the most beautiful experience and complete relaxation.  When we came home it was hurry and get ready for the new grand-baby.  Cadence Grace was born April 12, 2008.  She is the prettiest baby, smart too.  I think being a Grandmother is the bomb!  Cadence has spent the night with us and visits regularly.  When she sees Grandpa George, her whole face lights up, Cadence loves her Grandpa.
George tested for Sergeant and came in on the second rank statewide, (that’s good) and wants to promote.  So it back to weird shifts and mid week off, but that’s OK with me.  I am still a Lieutenant, but spent October through January, in an out-of-class assignment.  I have been the Community Partnership Manager.  I supervise religious programs and self-help programs, like AA/ NA.  This has been a totally different kind of job.  I have been enjoying the challenge but not having a uniform to wear has been too stressful.  Before my choices have been short sleeves or long sleeves?  Now I have to match colors, and decide what looks good!! Yikes, dressing up is hard work.
  Jason and Jessica also bought their first house this year, across town.  It is adorable with a big yard, 3 bedrooms, 2 baths and a double lot.  It’s a great starter house or a forever home.
Nick is still in Chico; he lost his job in October and has not been able to find any work.  We have put him to work doing work around our place, solar tubes, electrical, plumbing etc.  This has been the first time he has had time to help us out for years.  It’s nice to have a handy son.  Nick went down to my brothers for Thanksgiving and helped them with roofing, sky-lights and a bathroom remodel.  We hope something opens up for him soon, but with the economy….
Chris started out the year in San Diego, but the cost of living was too high and so he returned home to Susanville around June and looked for work in Susanville, Reno and Chico.  Finally he found a job in San Francisco working at the Airport.  This has been a good job so far, its union and he’s been promoted to Souse Chef.  Chris came home for Thanksgiving and again made a gourmet dinner for us.  My waist line cannot handle too much of his cooking, but it’s so good.  He left his dog Dante, with us and we are hoping he can come and get him soon, (I’m not holding my breath; we seem to be the family dog sitters).
Alex came home from Honduras in June.  He picked up his car that he left with us and drove across country to Tampa Florida, where he is stationed.  He also picked up Malaria while in Central America.  Hopefully the drugs they have given him have wiped it out.  Jungles have some bad things in them.  He is looking for a job because his 6 year enlistment is up in September.
Life is whizzing by at hyper speed, we are doing fine.  Glad to have a job and we are doing what everybody else is doing, staying home, and enjoying the simple things.  It is looking like we are in a continued drought, still not enough rain.  We loved hearing from all of our family and friends.  Keep safe and healthy and next year, maybe I’ll be on time.
Merry Christmas.
2009 was a great year for us.  We started out the year planning a visit to George’s Mom in Nome Alaska.  We went with Dave and Diane Woody on the trip.  Dave is my Step-brother.  We flew to Alaska in March, visited with old friends in Anchorage and had dinner with George’s cousins.  Anchorage was a nice city, even in March.  I was surprised how beautiful it was and now want to go back in the summer.  We arrived in Nome just before the mushers arrived for the finish of the Iditarod.  What an interesting trip.  Enjoyed visiting with George’s mom and enjoyed experiencing extreme Alaska.  We extended our trip and spent a week in Hawaii scuba diving.  So we were above the Artic Circle and below the Tropic of Capricorn all with out a passport.  That was an extreme vacation and packing for it, allowing for the temperature difference and scuba gear and airlines…. Well we needed the US postal service.
George promoted to Sergeant and something rare happened this summer, we had some days off together and worked the same shift.  This allowed us to do more local things than ever. We attended the local symphony, dove Lake Tahoe, went to the Tahoe Shakespeare Festival, hiked the Caribou Wilderness kayaked, and set off fireworks on the Black Rock desert (4th of Juplya)   What a good summer.   Mom and Wilmer came to visit Cadence, and us but mostly Cadence.
I am currently the Watch Commander and am tasked with security and helping to manage the running of the prison.  I can’t describe what I do but I am busy every day.  I am studying to take the Correctional Captain test in March.  We will see, there is too much up in the air right now.  Just happy we are employed.  I turned 50 in February, and normally a woman doesn’t tell her age, but I can retire!  So can George!
After we got home from Hawaii, it was cold and snowy so when I got a little ad to enter a sweepstakes for a week in Curacao, I entered.  For 2 months I entered a question sweepstakes and WON!   Curacao is part of the Nether land Antilles, Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao.  We were flown to Curacao and our room was paid for.  Wow we went diving 5 days and happened to time it for the coral spawn.  This was an unbelievable event.  On one night of the year, all of the coral release gametes in a mass spawning event that allow the stationary animals to achieve bio-diversity and fertilize/ disperse offspring.  What a great trip.
Jason and Jessica are doing great.  They are great parents and doing a good job.  Jessica is expecting number 2 and is due in April.  This time is a boy!  Jessica went back to work as an LVN and occasionally we get to watch Cadence.
Nick is living in Sacramento and finding construction work.  It’s mostly small jobs but he is hanging in there.  Chris was in Susanville working at a local restaurant.  He is again looking for work.  Alex got out of the Air Force after 6 years.  He came home and began looking for a job and found one as a civilian contractor for the Military.  He will be doing the same thing he was doing, fireman, but it will be in the Marshall Islands.  Hey another dive location.
We visited old friends in the Bay Area and made a quick trip to see my Dad and Betty in Carpentaria.  They invited us to visit Lotusland in Montecito. What a fantastic garden.  I could have spent the whole day taking photos.
We were blessed this year to see all of our family and visit all of our friends.  We hope the next year finds all you happy and well.  Today it is still snowing and we have received over a foot of snow so far.  I hope we keep getting the moisture, we need it.  Merry Christmas and keep in touch.
Merry Christmas 2010
To all of our family and friends,
2010 was overall good to us. There were bright spots and hard times.  I am happy to report that all of the boys are employed and not living at home!  Woo hoo!  We are both still working for the State of California and suffered the same economic hard times as everyone else.  Retirement is 2 years, 10 months and 2 weeks,(not that we are counting….)  George recently promoted to Correctional Counselor and likes his new job.  I am still a Lieutenant and plugging away.
In April we welcomed Hunter Brian into the family.  He is a busy little boy and looks just like his dad.  Unfortunately, Jason and Jessica are no longer together.  Jason gets the kids on his weekends and Jessica and the kids live in Reno for now.  Jason is here in town and we get to see the kids when he has them. We are sad this happened but love and support his family.
Chris has a sous chef job at David Wally’s Hot springs Resort in Genoa, Nevada.  He is doing very well and loves his work.  Nick is still in construction and living in Auburn CA.  He has a big Akita, “Max” and when he visits there is a lot of dog running around.  Alex is almost done with his one-year contract at Kwajalein AFB.  He can hardly wait to come home.  He and Nick plan on living together in the Sacramento area, while he plans for the future.
We went to Cozumel Mexico on a scuba diving trip this year.  Had a wonderful time.  On the days when the wind closed the harbors in Cozumel, we were able to take the ferry over to Cancun and dive the fresh water cenotes.  Cave diving…… no way!  I like light and pretty fish.  But it was a good experience and anytime in the water is fun.  I liked not having to rinse my gear.
We meet up with friends in the Black Rock Desert for the 4th of July and set off real fireworks, not the fake fireworks California sells.  We had a wonderful time, but this is primitive camping there is nothing but desert.  One of the items on our bucket list is to visit all of the National Parks.  I couldn’t believe I hadn’t been to Sequoia NP, so we planned a dive trip to the Channel Islands and came home via Sequoia and Yosemite NP.  We did the trip around Labor Day, next time it will be off-season.  Tuolumne meadows/ Tioga Pass were beautiful and I got some beautiful photos.
On November 1st I had a surgical repair of a herniated diaphragm.  I was doing OK but couldn’t avoid the repair.  Surgery hurts and kicked the stuffing out of me.  I went back to work on December 1st.  I thought I would get this long list of things done: Christmas letter, polish the silver, decorate the house, read a book, clean out drawers/cupboards etc.  Ha! I didn’t get any of those things done I slept a lot.
So new hobby, (like I need another hobby) is Charcuterie, or the art of cured meats.  I work with a large group of hunters and they all complain that by the time they go on this years hunt, they still have game left in the freezer from last year.  I needed meat to experiment with, so…  They give me their antelope, elk, venison, duck and I turn it into sausage and keep half.  I have made pepperoni sticks, kielbasa, breakfast sausage, smoked sausage, summer sausage and so much more.  Yumm.  George really likes this hobby!
So the plan for next year is to try harder to get out of our little rut.  Get out and do some fun things, see some old friends, make new ones.  George and I wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a safe and healthy New Year.
Merry Christmas from the Robinette’s, 2011
Well it’s Christmas Eve and today is the first day I have had to sit and compose anything.  George is still a Counselor, and I am temporally a Facility Captain, once again a steep learning curve.  My hours have changed and so have all of my habits.  The State of California is changing how the prisons do business and we have no idea how it will all shake out.  Retirement and all of that is on hold until we can see what is going to happen.  Quite the ride.
Last year all of the boys were employed and living on their own.  Chris and Alex are living at home now and both going back to school.  Both are looking at careers in the Health Care industry.  Firefighters and chefs don’t make enough nor are their any jobs.  We are not alone, more and more of our friends are having adult kids move back home.  It is not easy but better than them being part of the growing homeless.
Jason and kids are doing well.  We see Cadence and Hunter every week when they come to Grandmas/Papa’s house for dinner and reading books.  They are so cute, Cadence is 3 ½ and Hunter is 1 ½.  We will have them the day after Christmas to open all of their packages.
Nick and his faithful Akita Max are doing well.  Nick is still living in the Auburn area and working towards his contractor’s license.  He is a faithful Green Bay Packers fan and this year made the trek to Lambeau Field in Green Bay Wis.  He had a wonderful time.
Chris was laid off in Reno, the job market is horrible and the food industry is even worse.  Restaurants are closing up all over.  He moved home and has been taking a full schedule at Lassen College planning on transferring to Chico and getting his BSN in nursing.
Alex came back from Kwajalein in February, went with Nick on a Mexican cruise and while walking down the beach in Puerto Vallarta met Bre, a Canadian on vacation.  They talked and before we knew it she had met all of the family.  Alex proposed in November and they are engaged.  Bre is from Edmonton Alberta and now they are snarled with Homeland security and Immigration.  Their wedding plans are at the whim of bureaucrats and we will pass them on once we know.  We had Bre here at Thanksgiving and Alex is spending his break between semesters in Canada with her family.  Alex is also in college and is finishing his Fire Science degree.  Where he ends up education wise will depend on what the time-line with Bre will be.  He is also looking at nursing but Paramedic is still a possibility.
Thanksgiving was when we all got together.  My brother Dave and his wife Linn joined us from So Cal.  We had the grand kids and all of the boys and their dogs.  We played games, watched a lot of football and of course had a wonderful feast.  Cadence loves Bre and spent the whole holiday attached to Bre’s hip.  It was so cute.  Christmas will be much quieter but we already had our big holiday.
This year George and I dove Costa Rica on the Pacific side of the country.  Got some great photos and anytime in the warm is nice, but we will not make a point of going back.  Maybe it was the time of year, we went in the dry season and it was too much like Southern California, hot & dry and burning.  Everybody who loves Costa Rica went in the wet season when it was green.
Plans for next year are non-existent.  Time’s are uncertain and there is a lot in the wind.  But we are strong and hanging in there.  George and I wish all of you a healthy and prosperous New Year.  I got an e-mail that sums it up….
“God I wish for a fat pocket book and a slim waistline, not like last year when you mixed them up”.
Don’t loose your sense of humor,
George and Linda
2012 I didn't complete the Christmas Letter.....hmmmmmm
Merry Christmas 2012
To all for Family and Friends,
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.  2012 brought some big life changes to the Robinette’s.  The big news is we retired at the end of the year.  We had plans to continue to work through 2014, but uncertainty with George’s position, he wasn’t permanent, led us to re-evaluate retirement.  I was getting burned out with prison in general and George was looking to go back into uniform and back to shift work (yuck).  I was looking to change things up when I got offered a temporary camp position.  California Correctional Center (our prison) operates the inmate firefighting camps for Northern California.  I went out to several camps this summer and helped supervise inmate firefighting crews during the big fires this summer.  I made enough extra money I was able to pay off George’s truck and that helped us to decide to go ahead and retire.  George retired December 1 and I retired 12/12/12. (it is funny).
The rest of the year went by too fast.  Jason and I took grandkids Cadence (4) and Hunter (2) to go visit the Great-Grandparents this year.  We visited my Mom and Wilmer in Saint George Ut.  Wilmer is 93 this year.  We had a wonderful time visiting water parks, playing and driving the golf cart.  We then visited my Dad and Betty in Carpentaria Ca.  Betty was 90.  We went to the beach!!!!  The kids had such a good time.  So glad we introduced the kids to their great grandparents.
Nick is still in the Folsom area working.  He introduced us to his girlfriend Christy.  They came up in May and again for Thanksgiving.  Christy has two adorable girls 5 and 2.  They love playing with Cadence and Hunter.
Chris is going to school full time and working at the new local brewery
Christmas 2013
Hello to everybody.  So glad to be ushering out 2013. Next year has to get better.  We have had an eventful year.  February 25th, George fell off his orchard ladder and broke his leg, bad, real bad.  He broke his tibal plateau*, and long story short, he was non-weight bearing (no walking, standing etc) for four months.  He has recovered just fine and has a fine scar to show for it.  He got clearance to start walking in the middle of June and hasn’t looked back.
My stepmother Betty passed away last December she was 90 years old.  We moved my dad back to Susanville in June.  He has a nice house about 2 miles from our house. .  I spent months getting his house ready good thing he liked how I fixed it up.  It has been nice to have my dad close.  He is making new friends and getting to know our boys and grandchildren.  He lived in Southern California for over 30 years and we did not see him much.
Boys are all well, Alex and Chris are still at home (sigh) but both are working and making plans to move on.  Alex is not engaged anymorethe long distance relationship was too much.  He is currently in the process of applying to the Department of Corrections and would like to stay in Susanville.  We are all hoping his background clears soon and he can attend the next academy.  Chris still planning on nursing he would like to transfer to Chico State or another college in Northern California to get his BSN.
Nick going to school in Roseville taking classes for Construction Site Supervision and Computer Aided Drafting.  He has also joined the surveying Union and is getting jobs.  He is doing well.  We don’t see much of him, he is pretty busy with work and school.
Jason & kids are doing fine.  Jason’s ex-wife moved to Redding, and that has made custody more of an issue.  Cadence is starting Kindergarten and Hunter is just cute and gets to go to preschool.  We see the kids every week; they are in Susanville Monday –Thursday.  Jason has been homeschooling Cadence and that is going along just fine.  Divorce is hard on everybody.
Retirement has been good; it has taken awhile to figure it out. We decided just as we retired to invest into income property.  We got the idea while we were looking, /buying/ fixing up my dads home.  We found a couple of distressed homes, (sound but needing fixing up) and opened escrow.  Well then George fell and I was busy taking care of him and everything started to happen all at the same time.  We closed three properties, painted, carpet, bath remodels, plumbing issues etc, etc. yikes!  Got the rentals ready and moved my dad then I collapsed and took some time off.
So I was watching Craigslist and found a 25’ 1979 Airstream in superb condition in Grants Pass OR.  Our first trip after George started walking was to check this out and now we are the proud owners of an Airstream and loving it.  1 owner, and it is in great condition.  George has wanted to upgrade lots of little things; led lights, water pump, battery converter etc.  He tried to get some black marks off the exterior where the previous owner tied a tarp on and is now part way through an exterior polishing job.   He spent weeks polishing before we took our big trip.  Looking great!
We took a “shake down” trip down US 395, the Eastern Sierra-Nevada’s.  Camped in Bridgport Ca, visited Bodie, a “ghost-town, Mammoth Lakes, Devils Post pile NM and Mono Lake.  Stayed in Bishop, visited my stepbrother’s family and had a great time.  I got some fantastic photos.
On October 1st, we headed out to see some National Parks, visit George’s brother and sister in Taos, NM and see my mother in St. George UT.  Well the government shutdown did make part of that hard!  Taos was fun, and we had a good time visiting family.  On our way west, we went on the Durango/Silverton railroad that was fun!  Camped by some hot springs and soaked, and by the time we got to Utah, their national parks had opened.  All I can say is what a beautiful country we have!  I couldn’t take a bad photo in Arches, Canyonlands, Bryce or Zion.  We had a good visit with my mom and came home after 3 week and 3100 miles.
The Susanville Robinette’s and friends got together for Thanksgiving.  We had 25 for dinner and fun.  This years theme was “Ugly Christmas Sweaters”.  We all had a great time!  It is cold here and too dry.  We would love a wet year, but the weather hasn’t cooperated so far.  Haven’t made any plans for 2014 yet.  Every time we made big plans this year. Everything happened to change them.  We had a big Alaska cruise planned for May, but.. Oh well.  We are trying to take a more spontaneous, laid back approach to plans.  And if we have to make BIG plans, trip insurance!
We hope everybody is healthy, happy and doing well.  Merry Christmas to you all,
Linda and George Robinette
P.S lots of our trip photos are on Facebook  @Linda(Zittel) Robinette
Draft… never sent out Christmas 2014
(March 8th, 2015) Well Christmas time was busy and didn’t feel like writing anything to anybody too much turmoil and a lot going on.  I never found a quiet time to gather my thoughts.  I was looking through old photos and Christmas letters and found 1995, the only missing Christmas letter until now.  So the guilt set in, 2014 was a big year and I might as well include a draft that was never sent.  If I sent this out it would be a St Paddy’s letter.  Retirement is not for sissies!
 Last winter was dry, dry,      dry with ridiculously nice weather all winter.  We had sunny days in the 40’s and 50’s, nights just at freezing.  We spent a week in Death Valley in February and had a blast.  It was warm, sunny and we got a little tanned.  We missed a dive trip in 2013 when George broke his leg, so made up for it by having a big trip.   Thought about Bonaire, Curacao or back to Rotan, but it was going to cost us around $8,000 for two weeks!  My Aunt and Uncle suggested Bali Indonesia, so we looked into it.  Wow is all I can say. After a 22+ hour flight, we spent 3 wonderful weeks scuba diving and exploring.  I got to ride an elephant!  We stayed in a small village and had the time of our lives.  Definitely want to go back.  We timed our visit with the Bali New Year and experienced Nepi and Oogh-oogh celebrations, like nothing we have ever experienced.
When we got back we got the Airstream ready for summer.  We put in new carpet, upholstery, more polishing, new tires, then off on adventures.  We planned on going to Glacier NP but late spring storms made us change out plans and we visited Grand Tetons and Yellowstone instead.  I got some outstanding photographs.  We spent 4th of July in Cody Wyoming visiting Georges best friend as a child.  They took us to the Cody Stampede Rodeo, what fun, my first rodeo.  When then made our way back home.  In August we planned a family camp trip to the California Redwoods with all the boys and grand kids.  We had a good trip and Nick and his girlfriend brought her two girls so all of the kids had cousin fun.
About two weeks later we headed to the Bishop area in eastern California and visited the bristlecone pines.  They are the oldest trees in the world and so beautiful.  In early October my second cousin from Germany came to visit and we met up in Yosemite, had a great time hiking and catching up.  So in about a month we visited the Redwoods (tallest) the Bristle cone’s (oldest) and the Sequoia’s (biggest) each of the most amazing trees and all in California!
Last year I planted a large garden and lost my mind.  I planted over 30 tomato plants.  We fed 5 families out of the garden and I spent Oct/November canning all of the extra food.  I was so glad when the first hard freeze hit!
Thanksgiving was a big event as usual, over 45 people this year.  The theme was “Zombie Thanksgiving”  it was pretty fun!  It worked because we held it in a nearby hall and not in my house.  So I didn’t have to drive George and me crazy cleaning and getting the house ready.  We had fun but I am not ready to repeat (but I never am this close after).  Christmas was quiet and small.  Jason is in a relationship with a lovely woman with 4 kids ranging from 4 to 17.  Christmas is transitioning to their house.  So the grand kid/step grand kid count is at around 6.  Kaitlin’s older boys are not really around us, they spend the holidays with their father and his family.  So Nick and Christy’s two girls are 4 and 8, Cadence and Hunter are 4 and 6 and Kaitlin’s boy and girl are 4 and 6, (exactly like Jason’s… two sets of twins!!)  It is quite the gathering of kids/cousins when they get together.
We feel blessed by our family, life is good here and our health is fantastic.  We hope life is treating you well and our best wishes for you and your family.
Linda and George Robinette
Merry Christmas 2015 pastedGraphic.png
We hope everybody is doing well and keeping healthy.  Last year, well the yearly Christmas letter didn’t happen and I wrote a draft sometime in March.  We just had too much stuff happen at the end of the year. We had a big year so I will include last years “draft”.
2015 has been a good year for the Robinette’s overall. George and I continued to travel with our shiny Airstream named “Carmen” (Where in the world is Carmen San Diego) We spent a week in Death Valley again and then visited Valley of Fire outside of Las Vegas.  What a beautiful State park.  I highly recommend visiting.  We decided to camp locally and as an incentive to get out, came up with the “Lake Project”.  We have approx 50+ lakes within a 50-mile radius of Susanville, and we tried to visit as many as possible.  We got out and visited places I have never been.  We live in a very pretty area!  I started a blog to document my travels  http://lindarobinette.blogspot.com  Leave it to Linda.  So, as so often happens, a job found me and I started working part time for a Real Estate office doing Property Management, so the blog has not bee updated in quite awhile.  George has also been working for Susanville Real Estate; he is one of the handymen!  We/I cant find people to do any work, so we hire the husbands.  He has decided he hates painting… unless they pay him enough!
Kids are doing well; Jason is in a relationship with a lovely woman who has four children.  The older two are teenagers and in high school and the younger set are the same ages/gender as his kids so… 2 -five y.o. Boys and 2-7 y.o. Girls!  Life here has got VERY busy!  We love them all.  Nick is getting married this coming year and for Christmas he and Christy told us we will be grandparents again!! Another boy!  Chris is living/working in Roseville, and doing fine.  Alex is still in Susanville and working but trying to get on at the Military base.
This December George and I did a quick spontaneous trip to New York City with friends who have lived there.  What a fantastic trip!  We got subway passes and went everywhere.  Staten Island Ferry to see the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline, Twin Towers pools, The Cloisters (part of the MET) Greenwich Village, Harlem, Madison Square Garden, Chinatown, Little Italy, you name it…  The weather was unbelievable, so we bicycled all of Central Park and Battery Park. We stayed in Brooklyn and took the subway to Manhattan every day.  We saw a Broadway play and were wowed by all of the window displays on Fifth Ave and Rockefeller Center.  So glad we went.
I have been continuing taking jewelry classes.  My neighbor and instructor asked me to do another show this January, so I am stressed getting ready for it.  I don’t make things unless I have a deadline, so it is all self imposed.  Ha ha.
We are planning on a Southern Utah visit this year to see my mom, and we need to be around when the baby comes, otherwise we havent made any travel plans.  Hope all of you are doing well and keeping healthy.  Love to hear from you so keep in touch.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from our family!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
2018 from the Robinette’s
Greeting to all of our friends and family. Life in Susanville has been busy and…… it’s been a couple of years since I updated everyone. World travels have been a big part of our lives and we have visited some fantastic places.
February, 2017, we visited the Cook Islands in the South Pacific for a scuba trip. Unfortunately weather did not cooperate but we did have a wonderful time on Rarotonga and visited another island, Aitutaki which had the most beautiful beaches. It is between New Zealand and Hawaii and is the ancestral home of the Maoris.
We have traveled around the west with our Airstream, Lake Havasu AZ, California North coast, St George Ut, Lava beds NM, Grand Canyon of the Gunnison NP Co, Great Basin NP, Valley of Fire Nv, Grover Hot Springs SP and of course local lakes and campgrounds.  We camp with friends frequently and take our kayaks and bicycles and have a wonderful time.  I don’t know why, but we eat better camping, (very gourmet) than at home.  We manage to go out about every month…. almost…… except in the winter.
July of 17, we went to Europe for the first time.  We took a two week river cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest.  Wow trip of a lifetime! Every day was a different city.  Germany along the Rhine was as beautiful as a postcard. A return trip to Europe is definitely in the plans.  Less than a week later we were home and trekked to Oregon to my high school friend’s ranch for the total Eclipse.  That was so much better than I was expecting.  It lived up to the hype. We did a white water raft trip in Colorado and soaked in natural hot springs along the eastern side of the Sierra’s.
This year we have increased our international dive trips.  We went to Belize in March, Baja California in May and San Andreas Columbia in September.
George is happily retired.  He is still polishing the Airstream and does small jobs for a Realty group.  I had a total knee replacement this October and plan on returning to my Home Health, part time job in the new year.  It’s how we pay for the fun trips. The knee surgery was painful but I am starting to see the benefit.  Old knee didn’t want to hike, walk or do much, so it’s gone.
All is well with the boys. Jason is still working at one of the local prisons and is raising his two kids here in Susanville.  He gets them every other week so we keep involved in their lives.  Nick and wife Christy had a baby boy May 2016.  They are incredibly busy with three kids and both working.  I remember George and I in that situation, and can’t remember how we did it either!  Chris is living in Reno and working at the giga factory for Panasonic, who is making the batteries for Tesla.  Alex got married August of this year and he and his wife Pavlina had a beautiful baby girl, Noelle, just before Christmas.  Alex also is working for Panasonic.
Retirement is a funny thing….. I always pictured my perfect life after I retired (where everything would be done ‘cus I would have all of this time to do it…) and it is not like that.  I get less done because I can always do it tomorrow…. so I am trying to make life simpler, not sure if it’s working.
We have some amazing trips planned for 2019, South Africa safari  for our 40th Anniversary and back to Baja Ca to swim with the fishes.  We are so grateful for the life we live.
George and I hope for the best for all of you, keep well, stay safe and live each day to it’s fullest and don’t forget to love well and pet the dog (cat).
Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year
Merry Christmas 2019
Hello to all of our Family and Friends.
2019 has, as usual been busy. October 2018 I had a total knee replacement and as of today I am supper happy. It was painful and hard work but worth it.  So the beginning of the year was all about moving and getting stronger.  I had a goal… May was our 40 year anniversary and we splurged and went to South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Swaziland . WOW! We toured, went on safari, zip lined the Zambezi River gorge and saw lots and lots of animals and ate some of the best meals ever!  I want to go back on a bird watching/safari  tour to different areas. What beautiful places we saw. We loved South Africa.
In August 2018, Alex married Pavlina Tsaryk, a lovely woman, from Ukraine. She is a CPA and they live in Reno. December 20; Noelle arrived,  she is adorable and now just about ready to walk.
George is also doing well, he is still interested in his DNA/Family Tree.  He joined Ancestry and found his Fathers family!  He contacted several cousins (and blew up their genealogies in the process… they didn’t know about him and his line) and as a result we travel to meet one of his new found relatives.  George N. lives in Nanaimo BC, and is a retired banker for Bank of Canada. We took the trailer and camped/visited his family and learned all about George’s grandmother and her family roots.   We then took a leisurely route home via Washington/Oregon coast.  We live in a beautiful country! We had great weather, we brought our California sunshine.
When we got home from Africa, we had been looking for another dog and Nikki a 4 yo female Shiba joined our family. Well, she is responsible for my healthy knee; walking her every day for 1+ miles/day has made an amazing difference.  She doesn’t much care if its cold or snowing… we need to go walk!!! In October we added the next Shiba, Jai; he is 8 years old and a rescue.
Jason and kids ( Cadence 11, Hunter 9) are doing well.  Cadence went deer hunting and got her first deer.  They also went to Hawaii and learned to snorkel.
Nick and family are also doing fine.  Bodie is 3 and so cute.  Nick ,Bodie and Kendel visited us when we were camping/whitewater rafting the Middle fork of the American River.  I think I might try to introduce the grandkids to whitewater rafting next year. We all had FUN!
Chris is in Reno, working and still single.  He did add another grand puppy to the mix. Saki an Akita puppy, is his new baby. We are thrilled with our older dog rescues!
Alex, Lena and Noelle are also in Reno, working and remodeling their new…older home.
This fall George and I decided to replace the kitchen vinyl, it was only 20 years old. Then we needed to refinish the old beat up wood floors… then we needed to replace the vinyl in the rest of the downstairs… then we needed to paint all of the walls….since we had to pack up and move everything out to the garage… we decided to start down sizing…and since everything was out of the house, we decided to recover the couch…. I haven’t been able to make jewelry for the last few years, so I sold all of my jewelry equipment ….. and so it goes.  We didn’t quite finish everything, we had a major problem with the laundry room which we will finish this spring.  We kinda of finished by Thanksgiving before all of the family descended on us.  And the hot water heater died… and so it goes. So grateful we could do this project and this is The Last House I Will Paint !!!
I’m still working. I tell people I’m working for plane tickets. I am still doing Home Health and enjoying it for now. We continue to love traveling. We did a quick dive trip to Baja Ca, Cabo Plumo. We met former Susanville friends there and had a wonderful time. Planning on a tour to South America /Patagonia with my dad in March.  Planning a visit to Southern Utah to visit my Mom in February.  We had so much fun this summer touring around visiting National Parks, we are planning to do some more traveling this coming year in the Airstream.
I am so blessed to be fixed and back to being active.  It has been a L o n g .. 5 years since I damaged my knees. We have a huge Spring project to finish the house, but this too will pass and we can move on.  Grandkids are growing up fast, boys are busy.  We watch Nick and Christy work and raise their three kids, I can’t believe we survived the madness of  raising our family.
George R and George N                    Victoria Falls & friend
I have started posting to my blog; Leave it to Linda and posting photos of our Africa trip.  I took nearly 1,000 photos.  I couldn’t figure out how to share this trip with anyone who is interested (Mom I know you read! Hahaha). I don’t have tons of time but now the house work has slowed down and I don’t have Yard work or other hobbies to distract me, I am slowly uploading the photos of out trips. If you are interested here is the link. http://lindarobinette.blogspot.com
We wish all of you a Merry Christmas and health, happiness in the New Year.
